Lloyd Kaufman Jackmeat Troma Studios Hellls Kitchen

I suppose you can blame my Mom for taking me to my first movie, The Exorcist when I was an infant. Granted, I do not remember a second of that and only know it because someone told me, but it set a precedent. From there, I formed a love for movies and remember the days when the Showtime guide arrived in the mail for our white box on top of the TV. Predating cable, I would read what was coming soon from cover to cover and watch as many movies as possible, and that was around 8 y/o.

After that were the VHS days, and my uncle and I would hit the video store and scour the HORROR shelf. This is where we found The Toxic Avenger, and my adoration for Troma Studios was born. That is myself and the founder of Troma Studios, Lloyd Kaufman in their studio in Hell’s Kitchen (before it moved.) After those days were my employment at all the major video stores, with West Coast Video being the highlight (a movie should be made of the shit we got away with at that place.) There were always new flix to pop on the TV and customers constantly asking for opinions on what to rent (be sure to rewind.)

From there, I started writing reviews locally for a newspaper (remember those?), but that was brief, and it wasn’t until the WWW that I went full swing at reviewing. But before that, four friends got drunk and started to come up with these stupid nicknames that were planned as character names for a comic book. I decided to keep my goofy name JACKMEAT and began branding it as my username everywhere online (long before that was even a thing) Some of the other nicknames are out there, but they can pipe in if they would like to advertise. I registered jackmeat.com in 2001 after running it without registration for a couple of years with a hosting file trick.

It has seen various incarnations of sites but always had movie reviews at the heart of it. My full movie database on COLLECTORZ.com contains over 15,000 movies coming across my eyes since using their software for digital only. I have never attempted to keep track of those before that. My last site on WIX (which their company now is utter trash BUT does house over 2000 reviews that I cannot move over here due to THEIR policy of stealing user data, don’t believe me, here is their answer, you CANNOT take your posts and pages anywhere else) And now we are here, WELCOME and I hope you share this around and keep reading my daily reviews.

#jackmeatsflix #Shocktober

As Ministry has said, Every Day is Halloween. My #Shocktober event goes back to working at Blockbuster when the employees had their “picks” for Halloween movies. I renamed my section “Justin’s Shocktober Selections.” So this obsession with watching horror movies was already in full swing in 1992. And my #Shocktober event was born. I always try to watch a movie every day, as it is, but during October, that is one HORROR movie a day, at least. This, along with a review, is to try and guide you through the unpredictable genre that is horror.

I occasionally receive movies in advance from various sources, but I do NOT let that influence my ratings or reviews in the slightest. I try to point these out for transparency, but unlike many other review sites that kiss ass to get them, I refuse to do so, and my reviews will always be honest.
